RAISING THE BAR ON VEHICLE LOOKS & PERFORMANCE
Lift kits on pickup trucks, Jeeps and SUVs have come to serve a multitude of purposes. Originally designed to provide vehicles with additional off-road clearance, the suspension lift has become a staple of custom 4×4 vehicle modification. Designed to do everything from level out a tail-high pickup truck to create wildly tall, aggressively stanced custom vehicles – and everything in between.
TYPES OF SUSPENSION LIFTS
There are essentially two kinds of suspension systems you will most commonly come across as you look into lifting a vehicle – leveling kits and lift kits. Typically, leveling kits will use simple spacers to raise the front of a vehicle to be “level” with the rear, eliminating the “nose-down” look that most pickup trucks come with from the factory. Some leveling kits will also raise the rear of the vehicle a proportional amount to front (i.e. 2.5″ front / 1″ rear), these are sometimes referred as “leveling-lift kits”.
When someone refers to a “lift kit” they are typically referring to kits that raise the whole of the vehicle anywhere from 3-8 inches. Rather than just using spacers, these will kits use a combination of new springs/shocks/struts, steering knuckles, control arms, leaf spring blocks, crossmembers, sub-frames, etc., to raise the vehicle to new heights while maintaining correct steering geometry and retaining the vehicle’s ride quality.
When you need to go BIG, custom suspension systems are the way to go. At Southern Off-Road Specialists, we’ve built countless custom vehicles with suspension lifts of 20 inches and beyond. If you’re in the metro Atlanta area and are looking to build a monster of a truck, SORS is your destination.
